Iraq starts at the gate in Istanbul. Waiting to board our flight to Baghdad, curious and friendly eyes watch us. Before long, the first Iraqi approaches us. ‘You are going to Baghdad?’ he asks. ‘Yes.’ ‘Are you tourists?’ Yes. And so a conversation starts.
